One of the best books I have ever read Follett writes such brilliant stories. This is just engrossing. He writes such page turners. I absolutely love this book and I can't understand why it has not received far more reviews as it is so good.
Compelling? Maybe. A great story and a really interesting preface. I had mixed feelings about this book. Most of the time 'A Place Called Freedom' swings you along through the pages with ease, but now and then there are parts which seem really dull to read. Maybe the dull parts seemed duller because I had enjoyed the pace of the book, who knows, but I got to the end of the book thinking..."i'm glad to finish it". Ken has written better but this book still deserves a good rating!
I was looking for another Pillars of the Earth... ....but didn't find one. I agree with the other reviews that this is a truely captivating book, excellent characters and a very interesting insight into white slavery of all things!
However I felt that the thought that had gone into the storylines could have gone better - there is one particular abrupt change of direction.
Unlike Eva from Norway, I loved Pillars of the Earth, which I rate as one of the best three books I have read (approximately - I couldn't name the other two) and I like the detailed... more info
Finished already? I can't believe how fast I finished this novel! It's really captivating. It has a simple basic plot; something outrageously unfair happening and the oppressed working towards getting his revenge. Good guys and bad guys. Simple, but it really works. I also enjoy the detailing level. Nothing seems to be superfluous, yet you get a clear picture of things.
Better than Pillars of the Earth, which was captivating too but tediously long.
