Good read, enjoyed the story line. This was the first time I had read a James Herbert book and was not sure what to expect. The book is approx 650 pages and i found in parts it went into too finer detail which was unnecessary. I warmed to the characters and would defintley read another James Herbert book. Some parts were gripping and others parts a bit boring. There's a twist to the end of the story and i found the ending to be a bit predictable. But above all that I would recommend this book.
Brilliant Read I absolutely loved this book so much I didn't want it to end. I tried to read a little at a time, but wanting to read more also, but reading more meant that the book would soon come to an end. Hope there will be more like this.
Do you believe in ghosts? This starts off as an almost gentle little ghost story with an average family dealing with their own tragedy. And quite likeable it is with Herbert brilliantly describing details that bring the locations & characters alive. Then, halfway through the novel, it takes on a darker, more sinister & in many ways, deeply disturbing track. The central family are pushed to the background and we are confronted by some horrific images. I sometimes feel that Herbert pushes the limits just a little too far,... more info
a rose by any other name..... ......is still a rose so they say well to my mind the same goes for paedophilia!! this book glories in sado-masochism and sex between adults and by young children (Oh a few ghosts thrown in as a nod to the genre). Horror yes but not in the accepted way, If it were written by any other author it would be slated and rightly for perversion.
