A good and enthralling read. The book was hard to put down. Not only describing the positive and negative side to the industrial revolution but one woman's struggle, starting from childhood to take the place of her sisters' mother - a prostitute who did a bunk - to better themselves against all odds. Despite the suffering on the way, she manages to move her and her sisters from the slums to the comfortable suburbs before she gets hitched to the son of a self-made industrialist.

A moving read, must have if you are a Howard fan! A good book to read if you are an Audrey Howard fan, but not as good as some of her other work, netherless once I started to read it I couldn't put it down. Audrey Howard Fan's won't be let down.
Gloroius tale of couage, wonderfully told The story of Nancy Brody and her two sisters is a glorious tale of courageous struggle against adversity, which leads them from the slums of Angel Meadow to the riches of Victorian Manchester during the industrial revolution.
