  • fantastic book great read throughout and objective
If you are already a fan of kenneth davis's other books then this will not disappoint you. His funny and irreverent style keeps book interesting for anyone. Also little known facts are brought up through out book. This is a must read for anyone even vaguely interested in this most important topic.

  • Contains intriguing facts; exposes southern revisionism.
I don't pretend to be an expert on the Civil War, but I certainly find it interesting that negative reactions to Mr. Davis's book (which I found entertaining, informative, and thought-provoking; I learned a lot) tend to be based upon his depiction of the South as the unwarranted cause of the war and as the bastion of slavery. I slept through all my history classes in high school and was so turned off by history that I never took a course in college on history. Amazingly, Davis' 4 books utterly fascinate me, rivet me, hold my attention at all times. My advise is to hold a file card over the line in the book you are reading. That way it is sort of like an animation as the file... more info
