Clever, but intimidating book... Magical Bites is a magical mercenary-detective type story that takes a bit of determination to get through the first few chapters. Let me explain; it is a tough talking, well written book but the author initially gives little understanding into some of the concepts, terminologies, and character background - so much so that I kept wondering if I'd picked up a sequel and was therefore in the dark for a reason. A Series With Potential In this book, we see technogoly duel with magic. It's set some time in the near future and sees magic work somewhat like magnetism. Magic BITES alright - great book :) Magic Bites is the first book in the new Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. After reading the reviews here, I decided to buy this book, being desperate for new material to get into. And I'm so glad I did! Would DEFINITELY recommend this book; unlike the length (260 pages or so), cover and title suggest, it is well written, fast paced, original ideas and exciting action scenes, with just enough romance to keep it from being an all-action kinda book.
