Not good enough if you want to learn more advanced flash photography I'm an experienced natural light photographer but not so happy in using flash beyond sticking it on auto and letting the camera/flash automatic settings do their work. I bought this book to learn more and found it distinctly lacking. This is great if you need something more than the instruction manual to tell you what each button is for and how to stick in on auto, but is very limited in teaching the practical application and more advanced uses of the canon speedlight system. Could Be Better The best thing about this book is that the author gives full data showing f/stop and shutter speed for each image. However, for quite a few of the author's images this technical data will serve better as an example of how to produce snap shots.
I was disappointed to find chapters on portrait posing and composition. There are specialised books that cover these subjects, and frankly they cover them much better.

Brilliant book - essential for Speedlite novices I've recently bought my first camera and the Canon Speedlite 580 EX to go with it. After hours on the internet I still had no idea how to use the flash. The instruction booklet is accurate, but very brief. Hence I was confused about how to set the flash up and when to use the various functions. This book is very detailed and has lots of clear photos and instructions on how to use the flash.
