A comic masterpiece that you must hide from your parents As with Monty Python's Brand New Bok, Ali G and his writing team use pornography to restrict sales of their volume purely to the target readership. Only these days, you have to push the limit further and further. Whereas the Pythons merely needed to subtitle their book 'Tits and Bums' to shock, Ali G has to show explicit, diagrammatic sex to achieve the same effect. However the convention remains that you cannot depict on the printed page everything that goes on in the schoolboy's mind.
Not as good as the real thing As an avid Ali fan, I was really disappointed with this book. What makes Ali G funny is hearing him with the body language and all that and I'm afraid it doesn't translate into a book. Recommendation: save up and buy the DVD, you're more likely to laugh
Big up yourself, Ali G If i had just been born yesterday, with no knowledge of the world and only this book to guide me, i would definately be the biggest rap star/ gangster in the whole of the west country. The book is basically an encyclopedae of every joke Ali knows, from the sublime conflicts between different 'Massivs', to irrelevant facts about Tupac's death, how to fill out a benefit form fraudently and school matters . Laughs on every page Ali G transfers surprisingly well to the page. Generally TV comedy goes flat when turned into a book, but Ali G in some cases is funnier and, often, coarser. If you love Ali G, you will laugh your head off, and if not, not.
