Well-written prose, but completely undone by its final few pages "Sleep With Me" boasts intelligent and highly readable prose and makes a number of insightful observations about relationships and potential parenthood. Unfortunately, the characterisation and plot do not match the strength of the writing. Richard and Leila are a seemingly happy couple who conceive an unplanned child on the same evening that they meet a mysterious woman at a party. HAUNTING This is dark, erotic, gripping and sexy and I absolutely couldn't put it down. I love the writer's turn of phrase and slow-growing story. A perfect absorbing read. Don't be misled by the cheap chick-lit cover and attention grabbing title - this book is so much more than that.
'Sleep With Me' ... Or Maybe Not ? ... Briscoe's title is misleading and the book sleeve's eye catching risqueness, betrays the text's narrative which contains none of title or the cover's resonance. Do not expect to read a novel written with genuine urgency, believable characterisation or even eroticism. None of the above are truely delivered with any conviction in 'Sleep With Me'. I remember looking at this book briefly in a bookshop over a year ago and dismissing it on the basis of its not so subtle cover artwork and its cheap attention... more info
Scary and intriguing... Sleep With Me can be summed up in one word: intriguing. It is the tale of Richard and Lelia, a young couple who are looking forward to a life together. In a moment of naughtiness in the rush before a Christmas party, they conceive a child together.
