Great Read I'm only 15 (writing on my mum's account) so many could say that 'i don't know what i like etc.' but i really do. This Book (Peony In Love)..
Is one of my favorite reads ever because it includes my loves of ancient china and their women plus romance. Starts well, ends badly The first third of the book was very readable with a great deal of detail about Chinese life. Sadly the whole thing fell apart when it flew off into the realms of rather poor fantasy and ghost stories. i couldn't be bothered finishing it.
Not what I'd expected This is a really difficult book to review because it wasn't at all what I'd expected. The first third ran more or less true to form, following Peony as she prepares to turn 16 and leave her natal home to join a husband that she has never met. To commemorate a significant festival her father arranges a production of the epic opera The Peony Pavilion; an opera that Peony has read many times but never seen.
