Editorial Review:
The African Queen meets Swept Away in this sometimes laboured romantic comedy by director Ivan Reitman. Fortunately, he cast an old pro in Harrison Ford, as Quinn Harris, a South Seas charter pilot who must ferry New York fashion editor Robin Monroe (Anne Heche) from one island to another--a hop that falls flat when they fly into a mammoth storm that causes them to crash on a deserted island. The pair resent and resist each other, until they are forced to team up to escape from the island--and some modern pirates who want their heads. If that part of the story is unconvincing, you can always focus on the smouldering comic chemistry between Heche, who displays strong comic instincts, and the ever-reliable Ford. The script is just an excuse for these two flinty characters to strike increasingly romantic sparks off each other, which is always enjoyable to watch. --Marshall Fine, Amazon.com

Harrison Ford must look back with blushes Wow, this is poor! What more can you say? Lame Holllywood at its finest
Remember when Ford was a GOOD actor First watched this at my gloriously old-fashioned and community--run local cinema at Brynamman and boy, was I disappointed.
I was a huge fan of Ford in his Indiana Jones phase but here the attempt to perpetuate his action man persona is just doomed to failure - he has become just too old and boring.
His blossoming relationship with (the rather better) Heche as they try to survive on their desert island is just plain embarrassing to watch.
Even the Amazon review talks about a 'laboured'... more info
Not perfect in any way, but good fun Yep, another lame lame Hollywood film, but who cares? Its descent fun when your bored, and if you ignore Meg Ryans awful over-acting, and the bad script, you'll enjoy it. But this is, by no means, a classic. David Schwimmer should stick to acting dopey in Friends maybe?..
Entertaining and good fun This film is great fun. Harrison Ford and Anne Heche are a superb combination with a good on screen chemistry between them. It's an adventure packed with dodgy aeroplanes, desert islands, pirates and a decent amount of laughs. It's thoroughly enjoyable, pretty unbelievable but with some great characters and it therefore makes a great piece of escapist fun. Put your feet up and enjoy it - we did!
