Editorial Review:

From The Terminator to Titanic, you can always rely on writer-director James Cameron to show you something you've never seen on the big screen before. The guy may not consistently pen the most scintillating dialogue in the world (and, especially in this movie, he doesn't seem to have a particularly high regard for women), but as a director of kinetic, push-the-envelope action sequences, he is in a class by himself. In True Lies, the highlight is a breathtaking third-act jet and car chase through the Florida Keys. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a covert intelligence agent whose wife of 15 years (Jamie Lee Curtis) finally finds out that he's not really a computer salesman and who becomes mixed up in a case involving nuclear arms smuggling. Tom Arnold is surprisingly funny and engaging as Schwarzenegger's longtime spy partner, and Bill Paxton is a smarmy used-car salesman whom Arnold thinks is having an affair with his wife. Purely in terms of spectacular action and high-tech hardware, True Lies is a blast. --Jim Emerson, Amazon.com

  • a dynamite show
True lies is an action/comedy film that starts off like james bond but with greater emphasis on violence,it then treads into comedy before finishing off with hollywood blockbuster action at its very best, the film with that in mind can be divided into three, arnie excels in all areas.
True lies is a james cameron film, the budget is vast, the action exaggerated and it is all so frantic.
Jamie lee curtis puts in a good showing as arnies wife who is bored with the hum-drum of her life, arnie is a spy... more info

  • Puts modern action movies to shame
I just rewatched this film tonight, after having not seen it for many years. OMG, not only does this film still hold up, it puts many modern action films to shame. Amazingly well directed, funny, exciting and griping, with some brilliant action scenes. Very good score by Brad Fidel. Arnold is never better and Jamie Lee Curtis is very good too.
I believe this film is cut in the UK, so you might want to import. Although I have the first pressing of the UK DVD, which had the uncut version on there by... more info

  • Top class blockbuster
Arnie is a spy, Jamie Lee Curtis is a housewife. Inside the lies of their marriage are a great many fine stunts and setpieces, with some superb one liners and a lot of first class action.
This is a very entertaining and enjoyable film, like James Bond but with less class.

  • Warning! Croped version
As a result of UK channel ITV cuting/censoring part of the fight scene in the toilet, I purchased this DVD, however when I compared it with my/the 4.3 Video I noticed that there was additional footage left & or right of the 4.3 image, which would suggest that the film was made in at least a 16.9 widescreen aspect, however instead of the DVD being a/the full 16.9 Widescreen version it has in fact been UNNECESARILY croped to a letterbox aspect, which has black bars top & bottom; This is not the only... more info
