Fast.......YES. Noisy ??..I never noticed. Perfect for when you want a fast lens for indoor stuff and don't want to poke your efs-17-55 in peoples faces and also don't want to spoil your shots with awful flash guns.

As countless others have noted, the only negative is the cheap build quality, but then any lens needs to be cared for! Used with care produces great results, full stop.
Fantastic lens at a fantastic price Like many others on here, the review and consistent first place on Amazon's Canon lenses made me take the plunge on this little gem. Coupled with my 400D, it produces some fantastic portrait photos with amazing depth of field. You'd struggle to use it for group photography, but for two or maybe three people huddled together, it should be fine. Don't be put off by the cheap and cheerful build quality, the photos it produces are worth it and should it ever break on me, I'll happily buy another!
Wow What a cracker for £58 + vat. As most reviews say, it is a must have for all Canon DSLR owners. Popped it on to my 350 and very impressed by the quality and colour produced by this lens, much richer and sharper colours than the stock lens supplied with the camera. Small and light and excellent for low light level shots. Dont delay, buy today.
