Editorial Review:
Road House is one of those movies that helped usher out the era of action films that had feasible plot lines (and also helped reverse the direction of Patrick Swayze's career arc). Swayze stars as Dalton: a handsome, existential bouncer who owns both a degree in philosophy and a Mercedes and that's perhaps the most believable aspect of the whole movie. Dalton runs afoul of Wesley (Ben Gazzara), the meanest SOB round these parts, by taking up with his former girlfriend, Doc (Kelly Lynch)--the only woman in town with an IQ approaching double digits, even if she had unfathomably hooked up with such a lowlife. Swayze had complained about being typecast as beefcake when this was made, but that didn't stop him from revealing as much skin as possible. It's so insulting to its audience that it's nice to be able to turn the tables and laugh at the filmmakers.--David Kronke, Amazon.com

Best Worst Film Of The Year (1989) Nothing special to add to all the other ambivalent encomia already shovelled onto this mess of a film. Lots of good ingredients that add up to nothing but unintended laughs. Fast cars, explosions, naked chicks for the guys, naked Swayze for the girls (and for Swayze himself), and of course, superb fight sequences. The story and the total absence of police are simply ludicrous. Funny thing is, when Dalton's bouncer-mentor turns up to help, about halfway through the movie, he's so much cooler than... more info
Two Hour Stimulation Pill Road House is one of those films you spend about two hours watching and never really understand what is happening but you're too entertained to care. It is about Dalton (Swayze), the greatest bouncer, who has come to a small road house to instill order. He cleans up the bar's poor crop of bouncers and manages to fall in love with the town doctor. All the while, pissing off the local crime boss. Monster trucks, tons of breasts, kung fu, and a blind guitarist later, you still don't have to think to be amused.
I HATE ACTION MOVIES but this one has to be admired, revered, even as it has everything that an entertaining film should have. no, it's not intellectual and the acting's crap and the storyline is in my opinion pretty much the same as every other action movie in existence, but it has a hero with elvis hair who is still cool(and a philosopher and karate expert who does his own stitches without anaestheic), a sexy love intrest with huge hair who also happens to be a doctor, an excellent baddie, dopey henchmen, a mean (though... more info
It is good.. I watched this accidently initially. Its got an awful title, what plot there is has been done before and the acting isn't anything special, but do you know something its actually pretty good. Whenever its on TV I have to watch it, I can't help myself. Perhaps its the oriental psuedo-philosophy aspect that appeals or maybe its just that I want to be as tough as Dalton (Swayze) is in this film. Might also be that I enjoyed the music by Jeff Healey as well, a great blind blues guitar player, who plays... more info
