Editorial Review:

When it was announced that Tom Cruise would play the vampire Lestat in this adaptation of Anne Rice's bestselling novel, even Rice chimed in with a highly publicised objection. The author wisely and justifiably recanted her negative opinion when she saw Cruise's excellent performance, which perceptively addresses the pain and chronic melancholy that plagues anyone cursed with immortal bloodlust. Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst are equally good at maintaining the dark and brooding tone of Rice's novel. And in this rare mainstream project for a major studio, director Neil Jordan compensates for a lumbering plot by honouring the literate, Romantic qualities of Rice's screenplay. Considered a disappointment while being embraced by Rice's loyal followers, Interview with the Vampire is too slow to be a satisfying thriller, but it is definitely one of the most lavish, intelligent horror films ever made. --Jeff Shannon

  • Nevermind...
As diehard fans of the novel will recognise, so much has been left out of the film it is barely comprehensible. The Freniere family? the musician? I believe also that Lestat was not portrayed as the truly malevolent creature he is meant to be. Then again, whether this was due to the casting and/or acting is irrelevant. No one could possibly expose the true nature of Lestat for the sake of a film. If they could then it would probably be banned!
Minus the small inccorections i.e. Louis loosing the will... more info

  • Hammy Horror
This film is silly. Vampires never have and certainly don't exist. This is a greebo fantasy film designed to get the patchouli smelling pound out of the goth purse. Tom Cruise again disappoints with school play type pretending, ruining the whole film for any serious actors to shine. Yet again little big face adorns the cover of the DVD, this could be a good guidline as to the quality of the film. There could be a formula for the amount of Cruise face to size of cover equaling the overall quality of the... more info

  • excelent!
    an unsually good vampire movie!
a lovely movie for anyone who likes vampire films and the book that gave birth to this movie!
im not a fan of films born of books, normally finding them sorely lacking however this one is refreshing.
im not giving away much to do with the movie as it will spoil it but its all about 2 vampires and their relationship.
the way it starts is 1 of the pair talking to a reporter and giving him an account of his years spent on the planet. what we then see is... more info

  • A feast!
Tom Cruise must have done a truly fine job with this role because I did not like Lestat when I read the book (and I read the book before it became such a sensation...) and I REALLY did not like Lestat when I watched the movie. I can, to some degree, understand everyone's fascination with him. He is the classic and ultimate sociopath; charming, seductive, souless...
I mentioned Cruise but I should say that everyone in this movie did a magnificent job with their roles...
The cinematography is lush... more info
