Editorial Review:
Treasure Planet, a pet project of Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Hercules codirectors Ron Clements and John Musker, is an ambitious animation hybrid (traditional animation combined with elaborate CGI backgrounds). It was the subject of numerous in-studio battles, but Disney office politics and a poor public reception shouldn't distract one from its many admirable qualities, not the least being its overall fidelity to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel Treasure Island. Curiously revamped as a sci-fi adventure with space-faring galleons, flintlock ray guns and extreme-sports attitude, it caters to a young audience for whom Stevenson's adventure is an undiscovered treasure, revving up the material with arcade-game excitements. It's entertaining, for what it is, and kids will surely enjoy it. Maybe next time, however, Disney will follow its own legacy and properly adapt Stevenson (as they did with their 1950 live-action classic) for a new, and hopefully receptive, generation. --Jeff Shannon

Goddam Pixar This film to me is my second favourite Disney after Beauty and the Beast. Why they don't carry on doing cartoon animation is beyond me since I'd rather watch this 10, 000 times over than ever look at Cars EVER again. Amazing film! you HAVE to watch it!
A novel idea It must have seemed like a good idea on paper. Take a much loved childrens classic like "Treasure Island" and update it with a good splash of "Star Wars." Get the same guys that produced previous hits like "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid" and surely the result will be a winner. Well in a word, no. I went into the latest Walt Disney animated movie "Treasure Planet" really wanting to love it. I grew up just an hour away from Edinburgh and many times passed the island in the center of that city... more info
Am I gushing about this movie? You bet I am! Young Jim Hawkins (voice by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) grew up reading about pirates, and dreaming of finding the fabulous lost treasure of Captain Flint, the greatest pirate ever. When a dying sailor gives Jim a special "map", Jim and family friend Doctor Doppler (David Hyde Pierce) set off to find it. But, the crew of their ship looks more than a little bit untrustworthy, and none of them more so than the cook, John Silver (Brian Murray). Sailing through mind-blowing dangers, Jim encounters more adventures... more info
Great Movie A "Must see" adventure film, filled with spectacular action sequences. Another instant classic by disney. It has a different plot than regular disney movies. After watching "Treasure Planet", a question does arise in our minds i.e."What is our place in the universe?"
