Noise generating earphones I am not a bass fanatic, but the bass from these was weedy, even for me. The noise cancelling feature does absolutely nothing, as far as I can hear, apart from adding some background hiss. I suspect that the efficiency of these earphones probably depends mostly on how well they fit in your ear. I just about get the smallest size in and I wouldn't say they were comfortable. I've had a better listening experienced from headphones costing much less, and I haven't got any (apart from these), that cost more than... more info
Worked Well for 5 months then died - poor build These worked quite well blocking out ambient low frequency noise i.e. air conditioning, train rumble by about 50%; I do not think they are designed to block sudden or high frequency noises. Unfortunately after 4 months infrequent use the sound dropped on one channel, so I returned them to Amazon. As a result I would conclude that they are not up to the usual build standard for Sony, I have used their EX71 earbud phones and they are still going after three years.
MDR-NC11 noise Cancelling Headphones These noise cancelling headphones have been a disappointment.
There is a tendancy for headphones to fall out of the ear (unless you hold them in), with any of the supplied three sizes of earbud.
The bass is poor, when connected to a Samsung MP3 player, the volume is much less than with Samsung headphones. Sure I can turn up the volume, but that eats the battery.
There is little noise cancelling effect apart from as earplugs - the instructions inside do say it all depends on the fit to your ear. You... more info
Great on planes, OK on trains These headphones come into their own on a plane, where the constant roar is reduced to a quiet hiss. This means you can listen to music in comfort, or just turn off your music source and enjoy the peace. The noise cancelling effect is marginal on a train, and negligible with irregular sources such as voices or general office background noise.
Battery life is good, and anyway you only need to replace one AAA battery. It took a while to get them to fit my ears, but Sony provide covers in 3 sizes so you have... more info
