Why buy this? If your going to be taking alot of night time long shutter speed shots or want to use the bulb setting on the camera, if you have any problems with camera shake while on tripods or if you want to take portrait shots where your not looking into the eye piece the whole time, well then get this. If you just want to try out taking night time photos then I would just say use the timer on the camera. If you then decide that you like night shots and want to take more than get it. useful for reducing vibration I bought this as a bit of an afterthought for using with my D300, I already have the wireless remote and generally use it more often. This remote however is much more useful if you want to work behind the camera (where all the rest of the controls are) and more precisely control the timing of your shots. The cord is perhaps a bit short and an extention wire would surely not have been too much to expect at this price.
