"Like A Silky Smooth Galaxy Bar" Like a delicious chocolate bar, this is a great chill-out album,a bit jazzy but probably a bit watered down for purists. The songs are full of optimism and passion for life. This is not a "shouty" album, but is very mellow and tender.I love Open your eyes,Afro Blue is wonderfully subdued and the gospelly Walk With Me Lord is just brilliant! It's the type of album to put on when you have a quiet day,and the house is nice and warm, while winter rages on outside.Perfect then for this time of year!... more info
HHmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! Firstly, I would like to start this review off by saying that Ms wright has a great voice. It is sultry, seductive, haunting. Her voice to me isn't the problem with this album. I think it is the material. The reason why I purchsaed this CD, was based on 'Salt' which I had downloaded from itunes, and is, for me the best cut of this CD. The rest of the material doesn't move or inspire me(aside from a beautiful cover of 'walk with me Lord')To these ears is begins to sound samey. I see she has a new CD slated... more info
Superb If anyone is looking at this album wondering if they should buy it, I cannot recommend it highly enough. The title track "Salt" is of course one of the best tracks, but there are so many others - "Soon as I get home" brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it, "Afro Blue" is just sublime. If you want to listen to a beautiful, strong, yet gentle voice this is the album. You will not regret this purchase - I promise you. Spread the word to all your friends.
Such a warm voice Lizz Wright has a beautiful warm voice that really grabs you. I have seen her perform live and she is a really tremendous singer, a natural talent. Perhaps some of the reviewers here have not listened to the entire album as for me the best songs are the 4 at the end, and paricularly Blue Rose which is just fantastic in all its simplicity. In my opinion Lizz is at her best when she sings soul more so than in the jazzy genre. Perhaps that is why some of the die-hard jazz fans are less enthusiastic.... more info
