Beautiful beyond compare I absolutely love this CD. The music is achingly beautiful at times and I feel that it was with the help of this music that makes the film so good. It is because of this film and the soundtrack that I have been looking into Chinese music and I love what I am hearing. I realise that the music is not for everyone and can be rather grating to those not use to it, but if you are looking for something different and like China, and its culture, then you will most probably love this CD.
Beautiful Music for such a beautiful masterpiece of a film Everytime I listen to this, nostalgia comes on because of the beautiful music composed yet again by maestro Tan Dun (responsible for 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' and 'House of Flying Daggers). Zhang Yimou and Tan Dun's unition makes for a wonderful and beautifully composed pieces of music. Nice set of violins, cellos and the occasional harpsichord!

Sublime soundtrack The film is so visually breathtaking that whilst watching it is difficult to fully appreciate the role of this superb soundtrack in enriching the visual experience. Listening to the CD shows that just as much care has been taken in creating the film's sonic environment as the visual one. Tan Dun's music is superb; sad, tragic, hauntingly beautiful. The marriage of the strings, kodo drums and voices is wonderful and stands up to repeated listening. If you like classical music and/or Japanese Kodo drumming,... more info
Depends on what you like: First of all this soundtrack is superb!! Different people like different music, I prefer rock so when it comes to something like this its more about culture and tradition. If you havent heard of a chinese traditional music then this comes close. Its got no lyrics apart from one track in which a well known cantonese artists sings. Its good for relaxing. This is a masterpiece like the movie itself. I recommend this to people who like traditional music, and wants to listen to a different culture.
