• A clockwork menage
  Marie and Julien have, it appears, enjoyed a brief dalliance in the past: at the time they were both in unsatisfactory relationships but, now free, they realise how much they long to be together again.   Histoires de Marie et Julien is the latest film from Jacques Rivette, who along with Jean-Luc Godard is arguably the greatest living French film director.

  Rivette is noted (some detractors might say notorious) for his slow pacing and low-key style, and this film is no exception (it runs almost 2 and a half hours).
