Leaving Songs are Pleasing Songs The last couple of albums by the Tindersticks that preceded this release were a bit over produced and too long considering there were some weak tracks included. Staples has stripped things right down here and it works well. 'That Leaving Feeling' and 'Already Gone' are right up there with great Tindersticks tracks like 'Travelling Light' and 'Marbles'. Growly brillance with top drawer duets An excellent album. I never knew Tindersticks but came to this album via Maria Mckee's involvement and it is a real delight. Staples has a great, growly sort of voice that conveys such a sense of world-weariness. The two duets, as mentioned by the other reviewer, really are excellent. Maria shows how much emotion she can work into a song and the other is equally good. I listened to the CD repeatedly since I got it and it hasn't worn off. Top stuff.
Ten songs you will not forget in a hurry I am loathe to confess this but.....well... I got bored with the Tindersticks. Every album seemed to plough the same old furrow. Sure it was usually beautiful, heartbreaking, solipsistic ... the usual adjectives but it also become wearingly predictable.
