Features:

  • Vented diaphragm Non Resonant air chamber Standard copper voice coil wire Standard copper connecting cord mini plug with 1/4 inch adaptor

Editorial Review:

Built on the same features as the SR60 but utilizes a 4 conductor connecting cable and larger ear cushions the result of which gives a more open stage. The SR80 provides an improved bass resonance which enhances the overall detail. John Grado says he strove for the best sounding phones for the money and with the glowing reviews the SR80s have received who can argue.

  • Didn't Blow Me Away... on My iPod At Least
I spent at least 3 hours reading almost every review on headphones around the £100 mark and finally opted for these. I currently use Senheisser PX100's on my 160GB iPod Classic and so was really excited about getting these and was expecting to be blown away...
Unfortunatley, that wasn't the case. The top end is truely awesome but the bass isn't punchy like I was expecting, in fact, it's hardly even there at times. Quite honestly, my PX100's have better bass. Also, although my tunes are all ripped... more info

  • Great Headphones
Just got a set of these. The sound from them is great, I'm no audiophile, but they sound a lot better than the Sennheiser HD497 phones I used to use (that said these are more expensive). I use these mainly at work in a shared office, so these points for me are important:
    - they leak sound a bit more than my Sennheisers did, or at least, my office mate says they're just as bad. Having said that I can listen to music at much lower volumes with these and they're still clear and rich.
    - I can hear my... more info

  • An excellent headphone for rock music.
Recently I bought a pair of AKG k701s. Fantastic headphones, but not good at rock music. After much online reading, I bought these Grado SR80 headphones to plug that gap.
The difference between the two headphones is profound. My immediate impression of the Grado SR80 was 'yuck'! The boxing looks cheap, the headphones (compared to k701s) are plasticky and the foam was on wonky. They didn't look like a 'prestige series' headphone. However, they're lightweight for overear cans and much more comfortable... more info

  • Hi-fi cans - not for iPod!
First of all - if you are after a serious upgrade for your iPod or other mp3 player, I would say that you are better served elsewhere - the Goldring GX200 for example (these are buds, not cans - but we are talking about a PORTABLE music player after all). iPods lack the power to drive large cans at decent volumes while retaining headroom. Saying that however, the Grados do work convincingly on the iPod at modeate volumes.
Connect them to any decent budget or mid-priced hi-fi and you will be in for a... more info
