Why Not Five Stars ? So, it's a thriller - is that any reason why it can't be worthy of five stars? Someone has said that it is "the best cop thriller since Heat" but it is better than that. Sure it hasn't the budget of a Hollywood production but that brings its own advantages - there are no outlandish special effects to diminish it's credibility. The cops here are realand those who play the authorities are believable (the criminals are merely the backdrop for the story). Unlike American films we arn't told at... more info
Intelligent and realistic I won't repeat what has already been written, but would like correct one point made by another reviewer. The more sympathetic Police officer, Vrinks, played by Daniel Auteil, is not ambitious. In fact, he states he does not want the top job, that the other detective, Klein, Gerard Depardieu, does want. He simply wants to bring down the bad guys, because they have just ... well, given him a very good reason. This has gone to the top of my list of favorite French films, and is quite high at the top of... more info
Heavyweight French Cast- Superb Heavyweight French Cast (especially Gerard Depardieu) come together for this crime caper. Daniel Auteil is the French detective who must urgently crack a case of big time bank robbers who use maximum force in their crimes. When he is framed as an accessory in a murder he must walk a tightrope under the gaze of his jealous love and work rival.
A superb film... Billed as the French "Heat" it's a film about two ambitious cops. One who desires power, the other results and both do whatever it takes to get results. The film charts their pursuit of a gang of armed robbers and the choices they make along the way as well as the consequences. It's a brilliant, engaging, supberbly acted film that doesn't shy away from showing the moral ambiguitities facing police officers. Without doubt, I'd rate this as one of the best cop/crime movies ever.
