  I bought this because I was sick of grating bits of myself into my homemade dips and coleslaw, and slicing bits of my fingers off when I wanted thin slices of any reasonable sized vegetable (forget the small stuff). I was worried that I would have to chop things into small fiddly pieces to go into the machine but that was unfounded because the funnel is large enough to accommodate 2 large whole carrots or 3 small/med ones (to give you an idea of the funnel area).
