Still Chilling After All These Years In my youth the BBC ran a strand of films on Saturday evening entitled The Saturday Thriller. First off was Psycho, which was the first time I'd seen that movie, then came The Innocents which had a much greater effect on me. Unnerving A very good movie,which had my hairs standing on end a few times!I bought this dvd on the strength of the reviews on amazon and elsewhere I was not disapointed.The sinister atmosphere that film has from beginning is quite remarkable as it is sustained throughout.Is this a ghost story or the story of young woman slowly mentally unraveling ? The film is abiguous on this point and leaves the final decision up to the viewer.
Spine chilling classic What can I say apart from buy this classic British psychological horror at once, and bathe in its beautiful black and white imagery(courtesy of Freddie Francis), and also watch in wonder at a film that leaves so much to the imagination of its audience, leaving many questions unanswered at the end, and offering no cosy, comforting resolution.

Wow This film had passed me by until I went to see Juan Antonio Bayona's excellent El Orfanato [The Orphanage], after which a friend recommended I see Jack Clayton's The Innocents. What can I say? I was absolutely blown away by every aspect of it - the creeping psychological horror, the astonishing deep focus cinematography, brilliant use of sound, and a mesmerising central performance by Deborah Kerr.
