Roboquad is a four-legged spider-like robot with fantastic mobility and awareness. Its head rotates around so that it is able to monitor its environment sweeping the room with a tightly focused infrared beam. Once identified it can pursue moving objects. Roboquad can move fast and is equipped with sound, light and proximity sensors so it reacts to sound and it can tell the difference between dark and light. It has multiple modes including awareness and aggressiveness. This can also act as a security system and scare off the intruder with crazy sound effects. The robot features a 4-layer full-function remote to either cycle through 72 pre-programmed functions or directly control/programme it yourself. Requires 2 x C and 3 x AAA batteries (not included). Fun. But not for younger children. Don't get me wrong, this is a lot of fun and okay for the age ranges advertised. But it is isn't fast or zippy enough to appeal to younger kids (under 10s, I think). At the moment, the price tag of £35 (down from £70 originally!) is spot on and makes this good value. It is programmable, but few are likely to experiment much with it, due to the clunky (ie. simple) interface on the controller.
