Editorial Review:
In Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, players are transported back to the Forgotten Realms shortly after the events detailed in the original Neverwinter Nights 2. Following the climactic battle against the King of Shadows, the player awakens alone and stranded deep beneath the earth. Surrounded by a horde of evil spirits, the player embarks on an epic adventure that reveals his true destiny.
"With Neverwinter Nights 2, Obsidian delivered a high quality role-playing experience, reinforcing their position amongst the very finest studios working in the field," said Cyril Voiron, Marketing Director, Atari Europe. "With this autumn's expansion pack Obsidian are bringing a wealth of brilliant new content to the fans to make the unique Neverwinter Nights experience even richer."
Set in harsh, spirit-rich Rashemen, near the powerful nation of Thay, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer will present players with an exciting new campaign; epic levels; dozens of new feats and spells; new races, base classes and prestige classes; new companions; new weapons, armour and crafting options; hordes of new monsters; and enhanced modding tools.
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer's engrossing campaign will conclude the storyline that began in the original Neverwinter Nights 2 and focus on combat, exploration and classic D&D dungeon-crawling.

Fantastically written, beautiful and likeable, what an expansion pack should be Some people were disappointed with the release of NWN2. They said the camera was dodgy, (which in all respects it was) that the plot wasn't original enough, (it wasn't very original, but it was still well written and had some very memorable characters and moments) and that the gameplay seemed to be slow (well, it is a strategic game, it's not going to be Duke Nukem). I loved Neverwinter nights 2 despite the fact it had a couple of flaws, and when Mask of the Betrayer was released, I grabbed it as fast as I... more info
Why did I buy this? For those of you who played NWN 1 and expected some development, look no further - it never happened. Playing this was like playing the last one with nothing new. Boring, glitchy and uninspiring. While Morrowind, Oblivion and The Witcher clean up, this game never left the pits.
Fairly original A slightly (I've used two wishy-washy words in this review already - fairly, slightly) daring expansion for the flawed Neverwinter Nights II. The spirit thief mechanic works surprisingly well, the new music is absolutely fantastic, and the new characters are decent. There are a few engine improvements - performance was noticeably smoother in comparison to the original campaign, despite the graphics being slightly enhanced - but the game still feels fairly cumbersome and restricts the sense of freedom... more info
Flawed again! Ok, firstly i cleared NWN2 even with all the bugs, characters disappearing, cutscenes messing up, numerous crashes etc only to get a terrible ending with a few pictures and a voiceover lasting around 3minutes. Talk about rushed. I love these kind of games though, playing BG, NWN1, Torment, ID etc so i thought ok i'll give this a chance. The start was great , i noticed the loading times were a bit quicker and the camera options were changed, things were looking up. 10 hours of gameplay later i'm... more info
