Two hours of not a lot. One of those films that leaves you feeling "that was it!?" Lovely cinematography and quite a few great child actors but if you're looking for plot or entertainment, look elsewhere.
Pseudo over substance? Not quite sure whether I was supposed to be unsettled by this symbolism laden art flick, but I was. Not by the semi naked little girls frolicking in the lake but more by the "unhealthy" environment they have found themselves thrust into by way of a coffin of all things. Haunting, marvellous, naturalistic, unique... This is unlike most films you'll ever see. (Although it has some faint thematic echoes of Shyamalan's The Village.)It's compelling viewing from start to finish and the cinematography is incredibly sensual. I suppose the film opens itself up to accusations of having quasi-paedophilic tendencies. But, to be fair, I don't believe that to be the film-makers' intention. Takes time to get tuned to it, but is worth it I admit that the first time I saw this movie, I turned the DVD off after about 20 minutes. I felt the movie was just too boring. Then a few months later, a female friend insisted to me that this was a terrific movie, that I should give it another try. So I saw it again.
