Moody stuff This is string music from the movie score, with spare arrangements and a suitably menacing tone. It's well crafted stuff but away from the film it doesn't call to me to put the CD on.
There will be blood Anyone who knows Paul Thomas Anderson's earlier work will know how important the soundtrack is to his vision (becoming almost a fully-fledged character in some scenes). The overlying theme to this soundtrack is one of brooding menace. Composed entirely of orchestral pieces, it's well executed and finely crafted but can come across as a bit lacklustre (even with the fantastic Caroline Dale). Excellent soundtrack Jonny Greenwood isn't a household name, but it is one of note for anyone with an ear for modern music. Radiohead's lead guitarist has proven himself a key part of the band, and his innovative guitar work is present throughout their body of work. Greenwood's debut film score is a moody, orchestral number showcasing his multi-instrumentalism, and it's admittedly impressive. One of the many great things about 'There Will Be Blood' on CD format! I loved 'There Will Be Blood' one of my favourite films of the last 10 years. One of its outstanding features was it music. The score created by Jonny Greenwood ( With a little help from Arvo Part, and someone else who I have forgotten), is that it not only infused the film with its mood, but told its own unique aspect of the story, that would of been completely missing if this music wasn't there.
