BAD! I've never been so disappointed by a COlin Firth movie! I read the book and I expected a lot more from this movie. The script has little to do with the book and the plot is weak and predictable.
Even worse than the book What do Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley, Kevin McKidd, John Hannah, and a whole host of other distinguished actors have in common? Answer - they have all embarrassed themselves in one of the most awful films ever put to the silver screen. I'm not even going to waste my time writing an in-depth review - it was that forgettable. Even the book, which was dire, was better than this, but only in the same way clamidia is slightly more preferable than syphilis. Why is it not possible to give a zero star... more info
Keep An Open Mind A good little movie, if you don't go into it expecting anything. Entertaining and well acted.
So much wrong - but the myth nearly carries it There's so much wrong with this film, its hard to know where to start. The gifted cast have a stunned look of horror at the script they have to work with. The historical accuracy of the story is best summarised as a brief wave at a history book... The landscapes of Cumbria and Northumbria are obviously somewhere in eastern Europe, with dark age citadels represented by late medieval castles.
