Fast-food disk If you want a disk only for 3 months, it's ok to buy this one. I had loaded mine with only half of its capacity and suddenly everything is lost, I cannot retrieve it with any method and instead I got 2 empty folders with names like "eDDDD02kl"-and, it's not a virus...better go look elsewhere
does not work for some laptops Please note that this drive requires a LOT of power (1000mA) from the usb port and therefore does not work with some laptops. I write from bitter experience having just found out that my Apple PowerBook does not recognise the drive for this reason. This power requirement is outside the USB specification which requires devices to draw a maximum of 500 mA only, so Western Digital are therefore completely to blame. Their response? Small, portable and 300+ gigs of space Been using it for a few days without any problems. I've been able to back-up my music collection of thousands of songs as well as the 1000s of photos and movie clips. Including large files of high quality scans of very old family photos. It's light too so, my baggage allowance is'nt affected by the heavy 3.5 drives of... more info
SUPER LITTLE GIZMO Excellent device in its mysterious plain black slim case. How does it work? Very well, but with one word of warning - the USB cable that comes with it seems to be the maximum length - if your USB ports are at the back of your desktop (and at the bottom if it's a tower) XP might not recognise it and starts the new hardware wizard which looks for a non-existent driver. Really needs a longer cable for desktops, since USB extender cables and powered USB hubs don't seem to do the trick. Still a great gizmo!
