Editorial Review:
"Lizz Wright could no more sing a boring note than Jamie Oliver would pan fry chicken nuggets... A great prospect for the future."
"One of those singers who can turn her pipes to anything, and make it spine-tingling"
"Utterly Gorgeous"
"Her voice is rich and powerful... Her music is full of grace and spirituality. One of the Records of the Year"
"Lizz Wright's voice could make anyone stop in their tracks... Simply gorgeous"
Lizz Wright's first two Verve releases, Salt and Dreaming Wide Awake, established her as one of the jazz world's most celebrated rising stars, both an accomplished songwriter and a versatile, deeply expressive singer. On her third album The Orchard, the Georgia-bred, New York-based artist takes a substantial leap forward, transcending genre distinctions to deliver a vibrant, intensely creative milestone.
Largely self-penned The Orchard finds Wright mining her own experience to create an unmistakably personal musical statement. The warmth and resonance of Wright's gospel-trained contralto is matched by the intimacy and authority of such original compositions as "Coming Home," "My Heart," "Another Angel" and "When I Fall." Wright's interpretive skills are equally impressive on revelatory readings of the Ike and Tina Turner classic "I Idolize You," Sweet Honey in the Rock's "Hey Mann," the Led Zeppelin ballad "Thank You" and Patsy Cline's haunting "Strange."

cracking album, the orchard produces good fruit in these days of bland simon cowell pap music , its great to hear an album by a real singer. this is a lush gorgeous album.
An orchard in bloom Many reviews on Amazon -- and yes, myself guilty -- tend to lean towards fan-mail. You keep a watch out for your favourite artists, buy their cd's as they are released and write a review tell the world how truly fantastic the artist and music are. And by inference, your own taste in music. So let me start by saying that I do have a weakness for Lizz Wright. Don't expect a cool unbiased review. Her earlier albums have been spinning and spinning on my cd-player. Not just because of her voice, her phrasing and... more info
Lizz bears good fruit Lizz Wright is in my opinion a modern Sarah Vaughan with hints of modernesque influences. The problem comes in pigeonholing her music. Clearly I can write the words Soul, Folk, RnB, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, and that Lizz sings proudly from an African American heritage but Lizzs music does not sit well in any one of these categories. More she is the product of all of these things and arguably much better than the sum of those parts! Dreaming wide awake and Salt her two previous albums were fabulous offerings... more info
