  I bought this for my Nikon D40 (excellent value from Amazon) but decided it was a false economy. There is little point in buying a quality SLR and then putting an uncoated filter on the supplied kit lens, in low light this filter produces reflected images of any highlight in shot, in some circumstances it will do the same in daylight.   I bought this to prevent scratches etc to my lens.
  For just a little money, your lens surface is protected.
  This filter also prevents haze and UV rays.

  This filter which has a 52mm thread, screws nicely into my canon 50mm lens and tamron 55-200mm zoom lens.
