Editorial Review:
Sony has added to its popular CyberShot W range with the ultra compact, wide angle DSC-W170 camera. Thanks to its automatic face recognition and scene modes, you''ll be able to take perfect shots in a snap! It has a 10-megapixel sensor with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, a BIONZ processor and an optical image stabiliser, guaranteeing faster response times and sharp pictures that are bursting with colour! It also has a high sensitivity that goes up to 3200 ISO and a D-Range optimiser, which adapts to different lighting conditions to automatically adjust exposure and contrast levels. Sony makes intelligent photography with professional results available to everyone with the DSC-W170!

Not a bad camera, although Sony could have done better! Not a bad camera, but I think Sony could have done better... The stills are pretty good, they do have some graininess indoors, even at a fairly low ISO (200) and you have to go down to ISO 100 with flash or really good light if you want noise-free pics. Also, the SL option on the flash gives quite poor pictures indoors with subjects closer to the camera really blurred even with face recognition turned off (whereas my old Cyber-Shot P200 actually gave better indoor stills with this option enabled,... more info
Top camera, best price Had this approx 3months now and still keep discovering new features!
It looks great and feels well made, better than most casio and cannon cameras. The battery life is brilliant -took 163photos in one day many with the flash and still had 1/2battery life left. The camera is very easy to operate straight out the box -if you are unfamiliar with digital cameras just click the wheel round to EASY mode, and all settings are made by the camera. Timer functions, flash and focus options are all easily... more info
Well Worth the money! The camera is extremely user friendly! You will not need to read the manual (except for the safety stuff). Clarity is Excellent!
The only flaw.. You *can't* zoom **while** Video recording.
But then again.. its a digital camera! Mainly for capturing images!! Well done Sony!
Not recommend I bought this camera,it has many problems.
1.You cant charge battery inside the camera, every charge you have to take out of camera to charge in the charger, and put it back again in the camera.
2.It does not charge from usb cable via pc,where as most cameras charge battery via usb too.
3.Its USB cable is typical n expensive
4.Its memeory card is also not compatible with any printer or pc sockets.
5.Lense result also average and moody
6.If you lost very bulky and expensive... more info
