Editorial Review:
After the critical success of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE and 2046, Wong Kar Wai assembles an impressive cast for his first English-language film. To escape heartbreak, Elizabeth (singer Norah Jones) wanders across America, making money and friends as a waitress in various spots throughout the country. MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS also features the talents of Jude Law, David Strathairn, Rachel Weisz, and Natalie Portman.

Not at all bad, but certainly not great. Let's start by saying I am somewhat biased - looking through the few reviews I've done will reveal that Wong Kai-Wai has both my no.1 (In The Mood For Love) and no.2 (2046) films - Whilst his first foray into the English Language is not terrible, it certainly is not groundbreaking stuff. Disappointing I approached this film with apprehension expecting the worst because this is Wong Kai-Wai's first English language film. I think my concerns were justified as this really is a terrible film from a great director. One has to wonder how much control Wong Kai-Wai had over the casting for the film: Jude Law, Norah Jones, Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz I can only describe as weak but to be fair that may have something to do with a poor script also. Why Wong worked with crime writer Lawrence Block is quite... more info
A Beautiful Love Story/Road Movie... ...Marking Wong Kar Wai's english language debut and Norah Jones' acting debut, this is not an astounding movie but it is very close to it. Great performances from the whole cast, Rachel Weisz and David Strathairn really stand out. Fantastic cinematography from Darius Khondji, and an almost perfect soundtrack really set the mood. i highly recommend this movie for fans of Wong Kar Wai's other works and anyone looking for a visually stunning piece of mood cinema.
