Goldsmith still propping up mediocre composers from beyond the grave I know I've said it before but I still cannot believe that Brian Tyler, a composer who first came to my attention with the wonderful Bubba Ho-Tep score, could so quickly turn into a hack churning out 'noise' scores for trash movies such as The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift and the inarticulate, bombastic sounds of Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. What a disappointment this obviously talented man has turned out to be. Or was the music of Bubba Ho-Tep merely a fluke? Living up to Jerry Goldsmith is no... more info
Great new theme It's been a long time since I purchased a film soundtrack. I remember a time when you could always tell where the soundtrack section of a record store was as there would be a crowd of young men around it (who would quickly disperse if a group of young women came in!). Sadly though since the beginning of the 21st century it appears many composers and musicians have run out of ideas, and following Cliff Richard's contribution to the end of the millenium have simply decided to re-use old songs and themes... more info
Rambo - The Brian Tyler Music Score Having listened to Jerry Goldsmith's stunning music scores to First Blood / Rambo First Blood Part 2 and Rambo 3 for many years, it was with some hesitation that I loaded up Brian Tylers take on the movie franchise. The very first track kicks things off perfectly. "Rambo theme" takes the key theme from First Blood and re-introduces us to Rambo using Goldsmiths's original music blended with Tyler's interpretations and ageing.
