Editorial Review:

Breaking up is hard to do--but that doesn't mean you can't have some belly laughs about it. Forgetting Sarah Marshall provides that rare treat: a romantic comedy about breakups, that is both romantic and funny. The laughs, especially from writer-star Jason Segel, are both heartfelt and raunchy, and the film is just unexpected enough that it keeps the viewer's attention till the end. The touches of producer Judd Apatow, who's famously retooled rom-coms to appeal to guys as much as women, are woven throughout the film, but Segel's script, reportedly based on many of his own experiences, is fresh and original. And adult. Forgetting Sarah Marshall features male genitalia laffs presented in unexpected and human ways (the nude breakup scene is played for giggles but also deep poignancy), and the language and sex scenes are strictly for grownups--and rightly so. Segel's script, and his performance as Peter, show that he understands the true nature of adult relationships, which provides the refreshing difference between this film and some of Apatow's other crude creations. The cast is sublime; Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) plays title character Sarah, a self-absorbed actress, and Russell Brand is her new British honey who accompanies her to--what are the chances?--the exact same Hawaiian resort as Peter, who's nursing his broken heart. Mila Kunis plays Rachel, the resort employee who gives Peter a reason to hope, and Paul Rudd is the surfing instructor who gives him his own brand of heartfelt advice ("When life gives you lemons, just say 'F--- the lemons' and bail," he says cheerily). The pacing is screwball, and the absurdities fly (a "Dracula" musical puppet show, and a surprisingly lovely Hawaiian version of "Nothing Compares 2 U"). Nothing the viewer will forget any time soon.--A.T. Hurley

  • Boring and for a comedy not that funny!
I bought this DVD because I was a fan of the lead actor in a sitcom and thought it would be fun.
The story line was pretty weak and didn't build. It was very long and at numerous points i nearly gave up watching it.
I didn't find the film that funny and although i don't like Russel Brand he was actually the best thing in the movie.
The lead actor was quite irritating and for no reason ended up naked a lot of the time!
In my opinion this is a poor film with no story and poor attempts at... more info

  • Bland Bar Brand
Jason Segel plays an Ordinary Joe who happens to be going out with TV star Sarah Marshall. She dumps him and he goes on a solo holiday to get over it, only to find himself in the same hotel as his ex and her new boyfriend, daft Brit rock star Russell Brand. This begins as a promising comedy about the agony of being dumped and the humiliation of being left behind, and there are plenty of enjoyable moments, mainly involving Brand, who is excellent. Unfortunately, Segel and Kristen Bell (who plays Sarah) are... more info

  • Not bad.
Found this movie likable, but not laugh out loud funny. Still entertaining enough, but in places it was quite predictable.
The lead, Jason Segel is good as the heartbroken Peter but the best thing about this movie is Russel Brand who basically stole the show. Normally i'm not a big fan of his but I thought he was brilliant here as the sex mad rock star. He definitely made this movie worth watching and he was funny at the right moments.
A watchable and often funny movie worth watching for the... more info

  • moderately amusing
This was a long awaited film on my must watch list and I must say it was quite funny. It wasn't hilarious, well maybe Russell Brad was but apart from that the film seemed to chunter along at a rather mediocre pace but it wasn't a particularly fantastic achievement. There were a couple of supposedly 'funny' penis scenes which I didn't much care for, I didn't find them relevant, expect maybe to contribute to the uncomfortable silence that had engulfed me when I started watching the film. It's not a bad film... more info
